Develop good citizenship, artistic practices, work ethic and personal research. Assessment [Process + Projects + Participation] Process | 15% Sketchbook - You will be required to show multiple ideas drawn up in a sketchbook for each project. Sketchbooks should include your own writing and drawing, but also clippings/photos etc. of source/research/inspirational material. Sketchbooks will also include documentation of experiments, process and progress. Projects | 60% You will develop a physical relation with the transformation of materials into 3D works of art. Projects not delivered on time will receive one letter grade deduction for every class period not delivered. Participation | 25% Attendance – Come to class with all necessary materials for the day. If you are not prepared to work this will reflect on your attendance grade. Excessive absences [3 or more] can lower a grade by one full letter or more. Three late arrivals or early departures will be constituted as an absence. Critiques - Group critiques are an integral part of the class, active participation in them is required, whether your work is involved or not. Participating in the critiques will greatly expand your understanding of sculpture and your own work. Grades - Final grades will be determined as follows: A - Indicates work of sustained excellence - work that demonstrates a degree of technical quality, creativity, and exploration of materials. Student has demonstrated professionalism and constructive criticism. B - Indicates work of significantly better that competent quality, work that demonstrates above average technical skill, exploration of materials, and creative engagement. C - Indicates satisfactory work - work that demonstrates technical, creative, and exploration competence. It reflects regular attendance, continuing improvement, and successful accomplishment of course objectives. D - Indicates marginal competence in most or all areas of course study including attendance, completion of projects and participation in critiques. F - Indicates unsatisfactory quality and/or quantity of work. Logistics The Shop - You are expected to use tools and equipment in a safe and respectful manner and not to use tools on which you have not been trained on by university shop technicians or instructors. Do not attempt to use a tool or machine you are not familiar with – ask for help. Storage – Put your name on everything and don’t leave anything in the common areas. Get a locker and prepare to haul stuff to and from class. Finished work should be removed from the building immediately after your critique. Trash - Clean up after yourself. Big/heavy/gross stuff should go directly to the large dumpster outside.
